Ludwig Bemelmans (April 27, 1898-October 1, 1962) was an American author and tikes's book writer & illustrator. He is best known now for the series of Madeline books.
Life
Bemelmans was innate to Belgian painter Lambert Bemelmans and German Frances Fischer in Meran, Austria (today inside Italy). His father owned the hotel. He grew higher within Gmunden on the Traunsee in Upper Austria. His foremost language was French & his 2nd German.
Within 1904, his father left the personal, allowing his Ludwig's governess. His mother, Frances, took Ludwig & his brother to her native city of Regensburg. Bemelsman experienced difficulty around school & despised a German discipline. He was apprenticed to his uncle Hans Bemelmans at the hotel around Austria, but when the fight by owning the hosteller was sent to the United States where his father had moved & worked as a jewellery designer.
He spent a next many years work on hotels & eating house, & around 1917 joined the U.S. Army however was does'nt orderly to Europe because of his German heritage. He did get an officer, even so, & rose to 2nd lietenant. Within 1918, he was naturalized as an American citizen.
In the twenties, he tried to turn into an creative person & painter when working at hotels, however experienced real difficulties. His cartoon series "The Thrilling Adventures of the Count Bric a Brac" was dropped from either a Up to date York Globe when captain hicks months.
In the early 1930's he met May Massee the children's book editor at Viking Press who became the kinda partner, & he began to publish a total of tikes's books beginning by having Hansi around 1934.
A number one Madeline book was published inside 1939 & was actually rejected by Viking & published by Simon and Schuster.
All the same, Bemelmans too wrote the total of big books, including travel & humourous works, & pic scripts for films such as Yolanda and the Thief. Spending period inside Hollywood, he also became the close friend of Lady Elsie Mendl.
Madeline books
To each one story begins: "In an old house in Paris, that was covered with vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines... the smallest one was Madeline."
the girls come cared for by a nun, Miss Clavel. More characters include Pepito, boy of the Spanish Ambassador, world health organization dwells in the adjacent home; Lord Cucuface, creator of the house; & Genevieve, the mutt who rescues Madeline from either drowning in the second book.

Adaptations
The number one book, Madeline, was mass produced into an award-winning 1952 short animated cartoon directed by Robert Cannon for UPA, also titled "Madeline".
Between 1990 and 1995 an animated Madeline series was made for television, with narration within suitably riming style scan by Christopher Plummer.
The survive action Madeline film based on several of the books appeared inside 1998, directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer and starring Hatty Jones as Madeline, Frances McDormand as Miss Clavel, and Nigel Hawthorne as Lord Covington/"Cucuface".
